The show airs on the BBC which doesn't show ads, so it's a full 1 hour show.
Some groups have decided that 1hr shows (55-60mins) such as "The Tudors"
and "The Apprentice UK" should be around the 550MB file size instead of the
350MB one, so that the same encoding quality is retained. When you see a 20min
sitcom turn out at 175MB and a 40min show turn out at 350MB, the extra 200MB
for the extra 15/20mins is sort of correct to retain the same level of
quality. Some groups don't agree with this (as it is not an official "scene"
rule) and therefore still encode all 55-60min shows to fit 350MB whilst other
groups who clearly are about quality are making these larger shows around
550MB. This is why this was probably propered since you said you didn't see
any issues in the version you watched and this also helps explain the file
size.

Well every Apprentice UK episode has been 700 megs, prior to this one..so I'd
wager that his question was as why this episode is smaller rather than bigger
than usual.

But the last release was 700mb like all the others for this show.

700MB is way too much for a 1hr show. I think given my earlier explanation,
550MB is fine and if a group did encode it at 350MB - I won't lose any sleep
over it, but yeah 700MB is too much. If they are encoding at the regular rates
then 550MB is more than enough. I can't see the justification of increasing
the file size up another 150MB over 550 to 700MB especially given that this
show in particular doesn't have any fast action scenes etc to justify the
larger overhead.

it was originally nuked for a having an \"ad\" during the first 15 seconds, but
imho 700mb for an hr show is way excessive!

Oh bloody hell, that 15sec in the beginning is more or less an "intro" to the
apprentice, and it warns of the language. By this groups theory, we need to
proper every single hells kitchen, cops, and other reality based shows because
they say "Parental Discrestion(sp) is advised".

I was wondering why this wasn't the next episode and why the video quality
seemed worse.

Hi,
From my limited knowledge of Scene rules I understand that any show over
52 mins long get encoded at 700Mb. For instance Top Gear is always
700Mb if capped by the Scene. Well this is the case as
far as my TG archive is anyways. My TG collection is 700Mb from season 9 on. The
rest of my collection vary from 350Mb to 450Mb but these weren't Scene rips.

There is an arguement to have smaller file sizes so an entire season can,
potentially, fit on just one DVD & I see the sense in that too.

I would prefer smaller rips like 550Mb, in general, but I thing in TGs case this
may take somewhat from the quality as there are a lot of fast cars, action &
panning shots that could become pixelated at lower quality.

Just my view on this anyways
