Cropping is a bit off. They seem to show the "CC" lines at the top and bottom,
like those old warn VHS tapes.

That's not a big deal.

[edit] I just started watching it on the tv and it is quite distracting. Go for
the "Proper" version instead.

Thanks ts! I hope this is propered. Why? Although this stuff is free, and I
love that aspect, standards have to be maintained; and if a small glitch like
this is ignored, it'll, eventually, mushroom. Since the show under discussion
is one dealing with restaurants, the following analogy is, doubtless,
appropriate: if you've ever worked in restaurants, you'll notice, generally
speaking, that standards decline over time -- as the back-of-house staff take
shortcuts and care less and less. Therefore, if you let small glitches slide,
they'll only become increasingly more prevalent -- and more serious. Example:
Tudors 2x09 -- there's an 8-10 second glitch, which is huge, but a fixed version
has not been uploaded. So it's reasonable to conceive that, in time, this will
be become wholly acceptable -- thus eroding the standards setup to avoid these
sort of issues. Indeed, it would represent a regression rather than a progression.

So no one has noticed that this is 60 frames per second? I mean WOW, who knew
having a little more than twice as many frames as the usual cap (23fps) could
make such a difference (: Yet another reason I hate being poor and can't
afford HD. I had no idea what I was missing.

Last week we had one x264 rls, and it took us nearly 24 hours for Xor to the
standard file. This week we have a nuke, a proper, and 3 different x264 files!

Thats what I call fixing a problem!

I'm no expert, but doesn't having a bit rate of say 1000kbs and 60fps mean that
each frame is getting less Kb's than it would if it had had a much lower frame
rate like 23 or 30? I suppose the xvid compression would help a lot when there
isn't much change from one frame to the next, but it seems that without a
significantly higher bitrate, and in turn file size, the 60fps doesn't add to
better quality.

I don't think it is even broadcast in 60 frames on TV, more like 25 frames per
second, or possibly 30 depending on region.

Are you sure you didn't accidently see one in a different format? Other file
formats can look better, we just stick with avi because it is what everyone uses
and what everyone can actually play. Or maybe you saw a HDTV rip, who knows.

Software: transcode-1.0.5rc4

I think they may have mixed the transcode settings when they made the xvid and
then only tested the result in Xine (which happens to play it without any problems).

Transcode has quite many options and it take some experimentation before you
have a option that you think is good, but you will always find something new to
tweak and make the quality even better.

Word to that, it amazes me sometimes how different shows can be in quality even
though they are the same length and same size. Especially with animation.
