True Blood is an American television series based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries books by Charlaine Harris and adapted for television by Alan Ball. The series is produced by HBO in association with Ball's own production company, Your Face Goes Here Entertainment. The show details the fictional co-existence of vampires and humans in a small Louisiana town after Japanese-made synthetic blood becomes available for purchase. Anna Paquin stars as Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress at a diner who falls in love with one of the vampires, Bill Compton (portrayed by Stephen Moyer), integrated into her society. |

I have several of the books in lit format but have only read the first one... I enjoyed it but had some issues that've made reading for a length of time difficult and I haven't gone back to the series. I look forward to seeing how well it was adapted... Blood Ties was a good adaptation of Tanya Huff's books but it doesn't look like it'll be getting another season. |

My God! Soockie Stackhouse made it to prime time! I love everything that Charlene Harris has written... not only her Southern Vampire series but also her "hearing the dead" series. Her style of writing is lighter and more direct than a lot of female fantasy writers (Anne Rice being the best example of what I find difficult...the cloying use of words that make the reader feel like he's sinking into a pool filled with honey.) If only the TV series is close to the books... well I guess I'm about to find out. What a pleasent way to start Monday morning!!!! |

Missing scenes confirmed, scene 29 and 31 + a POV scene missing (time 35-36min) otherwise the pilot shows great potential. |

This sounds incredibly wrong. I'll give it a chance as it's HBO, but the whole Southern thing kind of gives me the sneaking suspicion that it's Blood Ties, only set in New Orleans or some white trash smalltown, USA bullshit hamlet for which I couldn't care less, literally. I really despised what Blood Ties did with the vampire theme, so here's hoping this is at least somewhat serious and not all machismo pseudo-eroticism kitchen-tv. Meh, I miss Blade: The Series - even with it's campy B-quality vibe, it was a million times better than these pseudo-vampire crap series they're been putting out recently. |

I didn't like this show one bit. The concept was cool but that episode for a pilot? Totally pointless and a waste of time in my opinion. |

I thought it was funny. I think you should notice quickly from the beginning how comedic the show should come across. This pilot episode seemed kind of directionless though. IMO it has potential. |

I haven\'t watched this yet, but to the people who don\'t think it\'s a good idea, what\'s wrong with Southern vampires? Have you not seen the greatness that is Near Dark? |

I love pilot season. So nice to screen all the pilots and know what to watch or avoid come fall. Avoid applies to this garbage. This piece of crap was just terrible. I hate that the dialect coach told the actors "To sound Southern just imagine your IQ dropping fifty points and your parents are brother and sister." Southern does not equal brain-dead hillbilly. Terrible show. |
