i tried to like mad men but i could not get into it and each to there own, and i say to anyone if you
don`t like a show don`t watch it. suppose congrats to mad men on your emmy win.

yeah, i totally agree with you.

i tried watching like 5 episodes of season one, but i just didnt get into it at all. wondered why
its such a hit serie, guess the actors and the big plot is interesting... oh well, not my cup of tea.

so i guess csi and stuff like that is for you guys, huh? produced for the masses, nothing too deep,
nothing too intelligent? or at all...

the1freeman, that is plain cruel!
mad men has a really bizarre taste and you can easly find it annoying.
i'm in love with it and s3ep.5 th fog was probably one of this year's greatest movingpicture moments
but i can clearly see someone not liking it. same as i personally find csi miami to be repulsive.

how is what i said cruel? i intentionally didn't get vulgar, or even bring out the obligatory "if
you don't like it why are you here commenting on it" line. i just think mad men requires an amount
of intelligence while csi and grey's anatomy and other "hit" shows do not.
anyway, i agree, the fog was the best yet. love among the ruins was also spectacular, don't you think?
sincere congrats on the emmy win, matt & gang!

i do agree with you that mad men is for a more mature viewer.

im a movie freak who knows my movies and i do not watch commercial bullsh*t, but in the case of tv
series.. probably erhm 95% of the series are crap. series, for me, are just entertainment when im
bored. dont wanna watch middle aged men in the sixties talking about advertisement (or whatever mad
men is about..).

i have watched those 5 episodes from season 1 and mad men looked(!) nice. the way its filmed, made,
acted, etc. i get why it won the emmys etc and i say congrats! just not my cup of tea, when it comes
to series in general.
[#118785] Written by: the1freeman [21/09/2009, 07:22]
see, that's just the problem. mad men isn't about that. and i don't think 5 episodes is enough to
really grasp what mad men is about, no matter how mature you are.
but hey, if you don't like it, you don't. i never said everyone should. i agree with the 95% being
crap, but on another note, i think that percentage also applies to the movies, too.

depends on do you watch movies which are big in the box offices.. 80% of hollywood movies are bad.
[#118788] Written by: the1freeman [21/09/2009, 08:02]
that's true. and what's with the remakes lately? i thought the writers strike ended already. how
'bout some new ideas, people...

i didn't start following mad men until the second season began then, upon my sister's insistence
that it's worth a try, i got the first season and watched it and i was hooked by the end of the
first episode. i admit i prefer human struggle and real(ish) conflict and episodes that are open or
left for the viewer's interpretation and mad men has a lot of that.

i also really like the acting and the nuances the actors hint at in their performances - the actors
are top notch and the main characters are fantastic in their flawed ways.

it reminds me of a "leave it to beaver" or "father knows best" from the parent's point of view -
it's focused on ward cleaver's grown up world. like ward, don drops massively wise nuggets to his
kids every once in a while and is very supportive of his family from the kid's point of view.

that said, i really like mad men but i'm not sure most people can like it.

@thefreeman1: i could feel you were struggling against vulgarity and..hehe..just teasing (and love
among the ruins was indeed good too)

@coswell. well, the shift from mainstream 80's tv series to the ones in the last decade (circa) is what
you're missing. there is, i am quite sure to state, very few cinema in the same period that can stand
as a whole in front of the sopranos, the wire or even battlestar galactica and not be shamed.

on another level if i were to argue that i'm not interested at all in the life of a sociopatic oil man what
would you be telling me? maybe that "there will be blood" is not in those few words, i'm guessing/
hoping.

it is perfectly legit for you of course not to be interested in series. (to i have to say it out loud? it is
clear for me; this is just a confrontation of views)

[i apologise for not using the correct quoting code, i have a nerd excuse for that that ia will spare you]

so you implied that myself and others are of less intelligence, just because we don`t agree we you
about this show. if we all liked the same programmes it would be a very boring place and we would be
mind numbing zombie drones, it could be easy to start trading insults with you but that would only
result in us getting slapped wrists or banned. so lets end this mini feud with a big manly hug.

i wouldn't take it personally, dvd king. i generally think everyone is of lesser intelligence than
me (i'm kind of an ego-maniac. seriously.) i am up for the manly hug thing, though.

well i maybe of lesser intelligence but i`m obviously more handsome than you and i have a bigger
collection than you. also if i was to send a picture of myself, the internet would crash at the sight of my
beauty and you would consider doing yourself some harm if you saw it and you would also start to cry
as well. big manly hug on the way.

i'll give you the handsome thing, but i don't know what kind of collection you mean. i hope you
don't mean a porn collection, because i can assure you, i have the bigger porn collection. boo-yah.
