answering my own question here!
Thanks for the episode XII but your rips don't cut it for xbox 360 playback.
after a bit of research I changed the audio to 128kbs MP3 CBR using virtualdub mod and now it plays
fine on the xbox 360.
It only took around 5 minutes to do this but i guess it would be better to have files that play on a
broad spectrum of devices, no?

cbr audio is against scene rules.

No. you want to play it on your standalone; you do the work.

ok no problem, i don't mind doing the work.
But if anyone else is wondering then that's what you need to do.

Hi bipolarbear,

I downloaded VirtualDub and when I changed the audio to MP3, my file size was 36GB. Can you please
let me in on the secret as to how to fix this file as I only own an Xbox?

Thanks

Jesse

Hi jessev84, I think you left it on full processing mode, you want to set the final file to "direct
stream copy"

edit: Install Lame ACM encoder first (see below posts)

open file in VDMod click "no" to the variable bitrate warning.
click on streams > stream lists.
right click on the audio track and select full processing mode.
right click on the audio track and then compression.
click on Lame mp3 (or other mp3 encoder) and select 128kbps CBR and then ok.
click on demux and give the new audio a name and the extension .mp3 wait for it to finish encoding.
click on streams > stream lists
click on the original audio stream and click on disable
click add and add your new audio to the list.
right click on both audio streams and make sure they are set to direct stream copy and then ok.

Go to file > save as
give your new video a name and select "direct stream copy" as the video mode in the video section.
that's it, should result in a file roughly the same size as the original.

Sounds complicated but isn't, give it a go.
good luck

99% of xvid files work on the 360 for streaming, but this one does not. If the CBR audio is against
the scene rules, then what do the other 99% of xvids use? Why not use that audio so it works on the 360?
I am just curious as I am not very knowledgeable in scene rules. But most xvids on eztv work on the
360 perfectly so I am curious why this does not. Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry for not making this clearer! i would reccomend downloading the lame ACM mp3 encoder.
h##p://www.free-codecs.com/download/LAME_ACM_Codec.htm
extract it, right click on the .inf file and choose install.
now start VDMod and you should now be able to see it in the compression list.
Once again my apologies, i wrote my little guide rather quickly!

This method works 100%, hopefully you won't need to use it much, as pot mentioned above 99% of xvid
works on the 360 but it's handy for when you come across that tv show or movie that will only play
for a few minutes on the xbox!

I too would like to know about this scene rule regarding VBR audio, I understand why it is used but
want to know why it only seems to be XII and DOT are the only groups that use this rule?

Hey polarbear.
I at first got the regular version of LAME then I learned that I needed the ACM version.

I had issues using LAME in Virtualdub in both Vista 64 and Windows 7 64. Nothing with an installer
worked for me.
Here's the solution: You can replace LAME with any ACM codec I believe.

CMD PROMPT:
Change directories: CD c:windowssyswow64
UNZIP your ACM codec to C: (or wherever you want)
TYPE: rundll32 setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:lameACM.inf

Won't show up in device mgr because they are 32 bit, but your apps should see them now.

After using that solution, LAME now shows up in VDM.
Thanks for your guide, worked well once I figured out how to get LAME to show up in VDM!

edit: Just played on the 360 and it worked great, did not stop at the 2 min mark like the original
did! Yay, thanks bipolarbear!

Hey pot, no problem, glad it worked in the end.
Sorry if you had a run around getting lame to work, it's not something i could have advised you on,
as i'm only familiar with 32 bit versions of xp and 7.

Thanks for adding the info on 64 bit windows, in case any one else is I would suggest they follow
your advice.
Anyone that's 32bit can still install Lame using the method i suggested above.

Now what would be great is to find a batch way of altering the files as it seems that XII releases
are becoming more common. Avisynth?

good info but handbrake will re-encode the video too, which isn't the best idea as it will decrease
the video quality. VirtualDub does not.
Probably good for PSP and portable devices but seeing as the 360 and PS3 can handle the original
xvid video fine, there is no need to re-encode it.
