| I mean really, such high res for a TV show? AND it is always released first? I'm at a loss here. | |||||

It's very easy to understand and very logical, It is broadcast in high resolution and captured in high resolution. It is edited in high resolution to remove the adverts. It can then be uploaded in high resolution in a minimum of time. To upload a "standard" version requires full re-encoding to downgrade the picture quality. This takes much more time and can create errors which then need to be fixed. Even if the high resolution version needs re-encoding, it needs less compression from the original capture so takes less time to re-encode. So it would always be available for upload in less time than the "standard" version in any case, re-encoded or not. The "standard" version these days is really actually the high resolution version. |
