I've very close to becoming a hater. I liked this show more when it was still trying to find its voice (no pun intended), and now that it has, the hole created by the mass shutdown of 50-year-old soap operas has been filed by glee. It's difficult to watch a show where the main protagonist is utterly feckless in the unceasing onslaught of horrible and selfish characters. They spend most of each show being generally horrible human beings, and then the last 2 minutes or so apologizing. That's all good on a personal growth front, but it's not fun to watch. It makes the musical numbers especially unwatchable. The arrangements are no longer fun. At this point they just take whatever song they're singing, have 12 people sing the same melody, or break it up into 1 or 2 standard 1/4 harmony parts, and call that a day. It's really not offering much. At this point I usually skip through the crappy parts. And the Jane Lynch buzz is so misplaced. She's a very compelling actress, but the writing on this show is not going to produce Emmy nominations for the actors. |
