Information
This documentary is based on the remarkable life and philosophy of Bob Randall, an elder of the
Yankunytjatjara people of Uluru in Central Australia.

It explores his idyllic early life, shattered when he is taken from his family as one of the 'Stolen
Generation', and his journey since then. 'Uncle Bob' also explores the reasons for the tragic
problems in many Australian Aboriginal communities today.

While there is sadness and desperation, the film finishes with a sense of hope. Archival footage
from the very early days of white contact with indigenous peoples is skilfully interwoven into the film.

Written by John Haberecht

Kanyini is a Pitjantjatjara word meaning interconnectedness; to care for, to support, to nature, and
to protect.

i saw this doco on ABC on valentine's day 2008 and it touched me so much that i sent myself a text
message so i wouldn't forget. i still have it saved in my inbox. many thanks for seeding.

i commend it to everyone who wants to understand a little more about the first australians, the wrongs that
were committed against them by whitefellas, and the strength of spirit, wisdom and hope that prevails
among the beautiful and noble people of our planet's oldest surviving culture.

thank you, Uncle Bob. you surely aren't rama rama.

peace.

Sounds like an excellent doco, but being familiar with the history (and have participated in
pro-indigenous actions), I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to watch it. I can watch drama and horror
movies and not be affected that much, but when those horrors are based on fact, it is another matter.
