Back when I was in high school, we had to spend a week doing work experience, where we'd take up a job to see what working was like, unpaid. I had the pleasure of working at our city's major theatre/playhouse/opera house, which was in itself interesting. Things became more interesting when half the staff had the flu, and I (as the only student with a suit, and a mature outset) was asked to meet performers at the entrance, show them around and help them out if they needed it. Among various singers, opera performers and prima-donnas, I was lucky enough to meet and hang out with Billy for half a day. I got to hear his set, advise on certain local things he needed to know about to change his jokes accordingly, as well as listen to him play banjo and generally screw around. He even took me to a local pub for lunch! He's such a fantastically genuine and amazing guy. During the last hour or so, he told me that he was working on, describing a documentary about the UK, and that he'd love to do one for Australia (which is where I live) as well, which he eventually did. He also described a plot of a movie he'd been asked to consider, where he played the father of two vigilantes, who hunt down a collection of bad guys. I think we all know what movie that was. Best time of my life, ever. |
