ITV -Billy Connolly's 'Journey to the Edge of the World' (2010)

Information
Billy Connolly's 'Journey to the Edge of the World'
Billy Connolly is a comedian, musician, presenter and actor – and 'citizen of the world’ This series
sees comedian Billy Connolly turn explorer, as he embarks on a rare and remote journey - attempted
and failed by hundreds before him - through the treacherous Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to
the Pacific. In Billy Connolly: Journey to the Edge of the World, Billy negotiates the much coveted
passage inside the Arctic Circle which is choked with impenetrable ice for most of the year. The
fabled passage through the Arctic Ocean was sought after for five centuries as a commercial sea
route and claimed hundreds of lives of those trying to discover a navigable way through, but now
global warming means that for a few weeks in the summer the ice melts and gives Billy a chance to
make an extraordinary once-in-a-lifetime journey. Includes all 4 episodes + Bonus Behind The scenes
footage.

Part 1: Nova Scotia
The first part of Billy’s epic ten-week journey sees him arriving in Nova Scotia then heading north
to Newfoundland. His journey by boat, motorbike, aeroplane and car takes him to the towns where
European immigrants first settled, the graveyard where victims of the Titanic disaster are buried
and to meet the man who earns a living making scarecrows. He also meets the hospitable townspeople
who took in airline passengers stranded by the 9/11 tragedy and goes in search of whales and icebergs.

Back when I was in high school, we had to spend a week doing work experience, where we'd take up a job
to see what working was like, unpaid. I had the pleasure of working at our city's major
theatre/playhouse/opera house, which was in itself interesting. Things became more interesting when half
the staff had the flu, and I (as the only student with a suit, and a mature outset) was asked to meet
performers at the entrance, show them around and help them out if they needed it.

Among various singers, opera performers and prima-donnas, I was lucky enough to meet and hang out
with Billy for half a day. I got to hear his set, advise on certain local things he needed to know about to
change his jokes accordingly, as well as listen to him play banjo and generally screw around. He even took
me to a local pub for lunch! He's such a fantastically genuine and amazing guy.

During the last hour or so, he told me that he was working on, describing a documentary about the UK, and
that he'd love to do one for Australia (which is where I live) as well, which he eventually did. He also
described a plot of a movie he'd been asked to consider, where he played the father of two vigilantes, who
hunt down a collection of bad guys. I think we all know what movie that was.

Best time of my life, ever.
