Part 10: Mega Plane
The episode profiles the C-5 Galaxy, one of the largest aircrafts in the world, and the operations
of the crew of the mega-plane. The episode includes a look at how the C-5 Galaxy transports military
equipment over to the troops in Iraq from America's Dover Air Force Base.

The aircraft rarely transport equipment FROM Dover, that's just where the aircraft live and are
maintained. MOST of the time they pick up their cargo at some OTHER Air Base, however, in MOST
cases (not ALL) Dover is where international cargo's are initially delivered to for sorting and
transhipment to other domestic locations.

The earliest C-5's are more than 40 years old. The first C5's were built in 1968, and 81 were built
between 1968 and 1973, at which point there is a 12 year hiatus before production restarted and
another 50 were built between 1985 and 1989. Of the 131 aircraft built, 108 are still operational
(33 Active, 45 Air Force Reserve, 30 Air National Guard).

Discovered a MAJOR stuff-up by the narrator (or script writer) at the 38:22 to 38:30 mark ..
"Finally the plane is loaded with fuel ... 130 kilos of it!" It was SUPPOSED to be "130 TONNES of
it". The plane wouldn't last 2 seconds with 130 kilos of fuel. (a FULL load of fuel is 193 Tonnes,
but there was obviously still 63 tonnes or so left before refueling commenced.)
[1 tonne is 204 lb (93 kg) heavier than 1 ton]
