Deep Water Productions - The World Without the U.S. (2008)

Information
The World Without The US (What Would Happen If?)
This feature length documentary debates the implications and consequences of US military involvement
in the world today. From an isolationist nation at the end of World War One, the US today has bases
in over ninety countries. No other nation has been able to project military power as the US does
today. But is such an involvement sustainable? Despite its might, the US is shrinking in terms of
population and economic power in relation to the rest of the world. So, what would happen should the
United States leave the international scene, and become again a "normal nation", a republic, and not
an empire? To find an answer to this question, director and producer Mitch Anderson embarked on an
investigative trip on four continents. "The World Without US" is an in-depth investigation of how US
foreign policy affects the lives of millions of people around the world.
Future scenarios in the absence of the US intervention are well debated and substantiated by experts
and ordinary citizens whose lives have been affected by the American presence in different regions.
The film's main expert is Niall Ferguson PHD. Niall is very well reputed in the documentary world,
he has co-authored many docs at BBC and Chanel4 in the UK and he's the author of several volumes on
world history. He contributes on regular basis on a number of Current Events magazines in the US and
Europe.

"The World Without US" is conclusive, politically charged and opinionated, making for good drama
while staying true to the facts and journalistic integrity.

Niall Ferguson is a very smart chap so this could be interesting, although a single program can
hardly be called an in-depth examination. His series War of the World is excellent, look for that if
you're interested in a completely different take on WWII history

I don't see a 2010 version listed anywhere.
I did however find a 2008 docu by the same title at IMDB
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1223900/
I has an average rating of only 5.4 but the Median ratings = 7

Bit too politicized and some part placing too much emphasis on self justification of US presence
down playing various economical aspect and/or only showing partial view of the whole situation.
IMO, the US presence around the world is about US National security.
The US have vested interest in maintaining the US dollar as the major transaction currency for
international trade and in order to do so it needs to maintain military presence. In the middle East
most of the Arab nation's currency is pegged to the US dollar and transaction of oil is done mostly
in US
dollars and price of oil is decided through an US controlled index.(It was done solely through US
dollars just a decade ago which was challenged by Iraq(France) and recently by Iran and Russia.)
International transaction of most other natural resources are also done through the US dollar.
With this all nation needs to exchange local currency into the US dollar creating a huge cash flow
into and out of US that US banks can utilize into investing into the US economy.
This is what it is all about not about humanitarian reasons but stability so that transaction is not
interrupted.

I got 15 minutes in before I gave up.
Conversational and rather amateurish. I wouldn't bother with the download.

I guess the uncomfortable truths were too much for you to take.

Your ideological frame work shouldn't have to suffer any doubt.
