Imagine the grief a mother must feel when she is told that her baby has died in childbirth. Then imagine what it must be like to discover, many years later, that the child had not died at all, but was secretly spirited away and given to someone else. That is what happened in Spain during the 40-year dictatorship of General Franco. Spanish authorities are now investigating astonishing allegations that for over four decades government officials sanctioned the abduction of thousands of babies. Al Jazeera is so full of it. While their own region of the world is in flames, they seem to be finding plenty of time nowadays to make documentaries about terrible things that happened in Europe 30-40-50-60-70 years ago. I guess it's easier to critisize other people than to take a look at yourself, or choose sides in democracy vs theocracy. |

Well, Aljazeera is a world wide news network now and it's not like they ignore the events that happen in it's region!! So what's the harm exactly in making documentaries about else where?? Aljazeera is just doing what CNN did before ... |

It's like "Wag the Dog", you put focus somewhere other than your own troubles. People are always quick to point out the flaws of others, rarely if ever turning the light in on themselves. I predict Al Jazeera won't touch the current upheaval in the middle east with anything resembling a stance or objetive journalism with a ten foot pole, until it's long over. It's as if CNN had cut away from the Oklahoma City bombing to show a documentary series on how arabs and muslims are worse, and how most terrorists are islamists. |

What did anyone expect otherwise ? Funda-MENTAL-ists play hardball, and Al-Jazeera has to live there, the rest of us don't. How would you feel if you showed up for work one day, and some wild-eyed towelhead shoved an RPG up your ass ? The just want to survive, by pissing off as few people as possible CLOSE-BY TO THEMSELVES. Too many people in the region are six hairs short of being a baboon, but they all have automatic weapons. In some areas, even starving people who have no food have automatic weapons, and don't realize that the cost of those weapons could feed them and their families for quite some time............... but consider it impractical for defensive reasons. If they sold their weapons they'd be robbed and/or killed by people who didn't sell theirs. Al-Jazeera is dancing on eggshells; they don't want to offend the ethnic groups there, and don't really want to offend western countries too much, since they're trying to be a valid recognized media in western markets too. |

No, it's like if one of the US documentary channels had completely ignored the faults and problems and failings with the last Gulf War, or New Orleans, or the California Riots, or such like, when they were happening, to instead have a documentary about Hitler. Why is that so weird? It's not like US TV is a paragon of perfection. Where were the hard hitting documentaries after 9/11 or during Gulf War 2 examining the US's failings, mistakes, behaviours and stupidities that are endemic in US foreign policy and that led to the catastrophe of the moment? It's nearly impossible to watch all the US channels as there are so many but even then I'm guessing vanishingly few stations mentioned the US's previously close relationship with the enemy du jour, or the weapons (including WMD) sales, or the tactical and political support in the past, or what have you, when the drums of patriotism were hammering hard. Their eye = splinter? twig? Your eye = 2 by 4 plank |
