a .3gp file plays just fine on vlc (video lan).
maybe it's time to consider d/loading an excellent quality and free video player?

it was an april fools joke, they just renamed all of the file extentions. change it back to .mp4 and
it will work

pretty obscure april fools joke. i'm guessing rm stands for realmedia. but how many of us still
remember rm or that it might have stood for realmedia. or am i completely wrong?

ok for anyone still stressing over this 3gp "joke" here's what you do.

look at the file and if the file name has .3gp after it simply delete it and replace with .mp4
if the .3gp file extension is not showing at the end of the file name click organise - folder and
search options - view - now untick hide file extensions for known file types - click ok. you can
now delete and replace the extension.

your media player will tell you somewhere in the options what codec the file is using, mpc and vlc
certainly do and all these .3gp files i have checked so far have been mp4.

what a joke! i deleted the file since only gnome mplayer could open it! now i have to download it
again? thanks.
you know there is a container named 3gp?

i have to admit, this was a pretty funny april fools joke.
now, for that assassin's creed kinect game - that's real, right?
[#181242] Written by: s8472 [02/04/2012, 05:30]
since we are at container formats, why "mp4", why not "mkv"? my a few months old bd player can read
mkv, but cannot read mp4! and as far as i know there are no dvd players that can rean mp4, or is
there? don't misunderstand, i am not complaining, i can easily convert them to mkv using mkv
creator. i am ust being curious, i guess.

thanks nogod4me

my samsung bd player can play the mp4 and certain mkv files, but why bother with 3gp? i don't feel
like experimenting and changing a shit burn and wasted space on a dvd. i see that windows media
player will open the 3gp, but who wants to watch an hour long program on a comp when you can watch
it on hdtv?
[#181297] Written by: yobar23 [02/04/2012, 16:45]
no worries. i changed the extension to .mp4, burned it to the dvd, and it plays fine in the bluray
player. reckon the 3gp is simply a container.
