Guys, sorry for the stupid question....

How do you play a 720p mkv file? Can it be played on the pc or is it meant for
burning on the DVD and watching on a HDTV.

You got to have a h264 avc decoder installed on you box.
There is one coming with cyberlinks powerDVD oder intervideos windvd.
Then I usually watch the files with mplayer classic oder VLC.

I don\'t know if there are much standalones which are capable of AVC.

btw.. your machine shouldn\'t be too slow. Normally I download the 720p but this
week the HR has to satisfy me, coz my main pc burned and I am on a 2.5 celeron
which is too damn weak.

I installed CCCP codec pack and I can play these mkv files in windows media
player 11 no problems

You need a splitter that understands the container (matroska - Haali splitter is
widely regarded as one of the best) and then a H264 codec to decode the video
stream within that container. FFDSHOW can do this (and is free), coreAVC is
faster but payware. I also think that Nero codecs can do H264 and at least one
other codec (I think powerdvd). The last two are hardware accelerated as far as
I know (if you have a compatable gfx card).

I would NOT recommend installing any codec packs.

download a torrent on torrentspy for coreavc 1.2. i recommend using media player
classic (modded gabest one, not the actual 6.4 microsoft version.)

i'm not sure if you could get coravc and ac3filter (freecodecs.com if you dont
have) to work in mpc

The Heroes .mkv file wasn't recognised in the folder with the other normal .avi's!?

First of all you have to install the right splitter and codec.
See the Inker's reply.
Open the .mkv file with Widows Media Player then close it.
Then you have to type the following lines into the Registry Editor:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mkv]
"PerceivedType"="video"
"Content Type"="video/x-matroska"

I am grateful for these 720p versions but some consistency would be nice.

Like where the heck is Ep 9 in 720p.

Next week do we wait patiently for the 720p or download the hr.hdtv first in
case it never comes.

Cheers for the reply - how would I go about finding this Registry Editor?

updated, and it has an excellent wiki and irc channels for help. It's made
by fans for fans, especially animé lovers who need some really good shit to
make their cartoons (just kidding) look correct. I always used to stick with
VLC, ffdshow, ac3filter, and matroska, but I found their setup much better.
Plus you'll never have to edit your registry.

I am playing these mkv files with media player classic with CCCpack installed.
They keep going out of sync...What can i do??? Thanks to anyone
ipv6 ready
