If you are willing to put in the effort, I found a guide on how to make all your
files playable in a standalone player.

And here is G-Spot, nifty little app to see if your file is standalone

Thanks, macnorton. I\'ve been using Divx\'s converter to make them playable -
it
works, but with some loss of quality...I\'ll try what the forum suggests, see
if that\'s a better method.

I\'ve used G-Spot in the past, but it doesn\'t mention the Q-PEL codec when
rendering the files.

What\'s most irritating is, that my brother\'s cheap standalone player plays
anything you throw at it, whereas my more expensive model crashes!
