GlobalClimax, try mplayer. It plays almost any file format without having to
install any additional codecs. The address is: www.mplayerhq.hu . Just make sure
to download the windows version that includes an actual interface (GUI)

EDIT: Never mind, I thought you were referring to a player=computer program,
sorry I don't know any stand-alone players.

zabra, the low res version was already released as an avi file. 720p x264 files
are usually encoded using matroska (mkv) because it's simply a more versatile
container. Good luck convincing the scene to change its mind on that one. That
said, your computer certainly has the brawn to play these easily, and vlc is one
of the easiest ways to play mkvs in osx. I'd suggest making sure you are using
the latest version as vlc's x264 support has been rapidly improving in recent
versions. If that doesn't work, try mplayer. There is also a quicktime mkv
plugin at sourceforge(dot)net/projects/matroskaqt (you 've got to replace the
(dot) with a real one, unfortunately this forum deletes urls)

is it me, or is this rip rather skanky? Normally the 1gb files x264 in mkv wrap
looked nice, but this looked like a bad 700 xvid. ( I have a 37" LCD, using VLC
on a P4 HT 3GHz 2GB ram box with a nvidia 6800 256mb) so its not my HW. Got the
350 one too just to check, but the 1GB one is just a bit better. So in my book
its nuked for low bitrate, and for cutting out a few times ( but that could be
the source)

to be able to watch these viles at HD on your tv you would need a dvi, hdmi,or HD s-video connection
inroder to send the HD signal to your tv.. if watched using a regualr svideo,or vga cable you will get the
same resoulution as a HRHD on your tv.. try changing your cable and notice the difference
