Convert 1100MB .mkv files to 700MB .avi files - courtesy of tvdavid:

If you install MediaCoder from http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/ , you can
easily convert the 1100MB MKV files to 700MB AVI files.

Setup suggestions:

On the video tab, set format=XviD, container=AVI, Mode=Bitrate-based,
bitrate=2100Kbps. On the audio tab, set Encoder="LAME MP3".
On the LAME settings, pick CBR/Stereo/128Kbps.

Or, if you want to keep the AC3 audio (see "Copy Audio" checkbox), try video
bitrate=1800Kbps.

Then just load the MKV file, and hit start.

Moved message from ABennett:

In the hopes it might reduce the number of times we have to answer these
questions, a quick FAQ regarding the 24 releases in the 720p x264 format.

Q: Do you plan to keep doing 24 in this new format?

A: Yes, at present the plan is to continue with 24 in this format.

Q: What about other shows in 720p?

A: That has not yet been completely determined. We'll see how 24 goes.

Q: I prefer the 350Mb releases. Will you still release those?

A: Yes, the 350Mb releases are still preferred by the majority of downloaders.
They are not going anywhere.

Q: Then where are the 350Mb releases for episodes 1-4?

A: They were released around a week ago, DVD rips.

Q: What is the difference between HR and 720p?

A: Three main differences.

1) 720p release is a larger filesize
2) 720p release is a higher resolution
3) 720p release uses a different codec that will require a more powerful
processor to decode successfully

Q: Why the .mkv format? Can't you use a different format?

A: No, this is the format that the scene releases. We have no control over it.

EDIT aydin1954:

here is a more in depth info on the advantages of .mkv files:

http://www.matroska.org/technical/guides/faq/index.html

Q: How can I help keep the 720p releases coming?

A: As usual, the answer is SEED. With these large files there is a worry that
people will drop off them quickly - seeing healthy swarms with lots of seeders
on these will encourage us to do more. Seeing people drop off soon after
finishing their download will encourage us to reconsider.

Of course if you have a good connection we are always looking for new seeders,
ask for an op in the IRC channel.

Q: How do I play these .mkv files?

A: Your best bet is to use VLC Player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
if your PC has the needed horspower. If not then you can try Media Player
Classic with CoreAVC and AC3

Moved from other posting:

It has come to our attention that if you use PeerGuardian 2 (which is a good
idea) you might have trouble to connect to the VTV Trackers:

http://85.17.42.17:7001/announce

http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce -> 217.13.206.147

To verify that the problem is with PG2 disable it for a few min and see what
happens. If your Torrent Client (we talk about uTorrent and Azureus, the rest is
considered of inferior quality and frowned upon) connects then the next step is
to check which list is has the blocking.

Usually is the p2p one but you can do like and
turn them all off and then sequentially on.

When you find the culprit open that list and either do a find or better scroll
to come around the IP address of the above trackers. Once you find the single
entry or a range then right-click and allow it permanently.

In my case the first one was not in the list but the second did fall in a
blocked range named Chaos Computer Club.

One important thing DO NOT add the additional trackers to obviate to this
problem as suggested to cure other tracker problems but follow the above
instructions. Otherwise you will not do yourself a favor but only prevent your
client from joining the initial high speed seeders

Serach tip from CTU_Bauer:

Google only has 334 of the forum pages logged (search site:www.eztvefnet.org/
inurl:forum=view_thread
to see them all) so it's not the most thorough
search option, however I think it will suffice until a search feature is
implemented.

The above search string, with the addition of the parameters you're searching,
will search within the threads listed, whereas searching inside the url
for forum=index will search the topic titles, eg.

Answer by Azriel on why EZTV does not release RAR/SFV/NFO

1. Because the sfv/rar method was introduced to maintain file integrity.
Torrents use hashing as a way of maintaining file integrity. So the sfv/rar
method is superfluous to requirements.

2. Torrents are not FTP. When you see the NFO/SFV/RAR method used in torrents
it's because the files originated from FTP servers and the torrent releaser
could either: not be arsed to unrar or wanted to provide the release in its
original untouched state.

3. We would have more people asking the opposite of your question if we did it
the other way. E.g. "How do I open these rars?! with Windows Media Playz0r?!!!"

4. When it comes to certain things, more information for the general public is
not always in the best interest of the groups.

Definitions:

NUKED = A release that has some sort of problem, usually video, audio, or size
related.

REPACK/RERIP = The scene release group caught their own mistake and released a
new torrent for one they already released, fixing the problem.

PROPER = A different release group released a torrent, fixing a problem, or not
having it, that the winning release group released.

also look for addition words/combinations like

REAL.PROPER = means the proper was also nuked

REAL.PROPER.REPACK = as above

Here are some real examples taken from actual .avi files i have

Smallville.S07E09.PROPER.HDTV.XviD-XOR.avi

smallville.s07e10.real.proper.hdtv.xvid-notv.avi

Smallville.S07E11.REPACK.PROPER.HDTV.XviD-2HD.avi

Having Download or Tracker Problems? Read here!

Courtesy of Ven - Slightly edited

First make sure you are using uTorrent or eventually Azureus on Win and Azureus
on Mac all the other clients will cause you problems and we do not support them.

On bittorrent you are rewarded for sharing more, however when you have your
uploads set to unlimited (or too high) it will actually slow you down because
your upload bandwidth will be saturated uploading to peers and there will be no
upload bandwidth available for you to send ACK confirmations and make requests
for new packets.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACK_%28computing%29

For example on a 1500/256 connection set upload to 15 kB/s and you will receive
a well peered file (aka - any EZTV torrents) at 150 kB/s (unless the tracker/s
is flooded with 50,000 leeches to 1000 seeds).

Consider these factors if you are having problems.

-- Are you using a decent torrent client? EZTV recommends:
uTorrent or Azureus for Windows
Azureus for Mac
rtorrent with dht patch for Linux
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=293892

or if you use graphical environments under Linux (Gnome/KDE) kTorrent.

If you are using anything else do not bother to
complain you are using a crappy client and it is your problem.

-- Try putting a limit on your uploads ... it could actually make things faster.

-- Have you tried port forwarding? Enabling UPnP port mapping? Turning on your
DHT?

-- Are you downloading/seeding more than one torrent at a time? This will create
a problem on slower connections. It can be fine to do when downloading torrents
that are slower due to small peer numbers (cause it obviously won't download
faster than the few available people can upload to you) ... but when it comes
to popular torrents, you "spread your upload too thin" between multiple
files/peers/trackers - and then the tracker on each torrent thinks you are
leeching and limits your download.

-- In uTorrent "Options > Preferences > BitTorrent" have you set-up
your "Numbers of Connections"? For the same line speed example courtesy of
aussiemadmum:

Max global connections : 600, Max per torrent : 100, upload slots : 6. info on a
site suggesting the calculations:

http://www.johntp.com/2006/04/19/how-to-increase-download-speeds-of-utorrent/

-- Is your connection flooded? You might stopped your torrents, even
closed your torrent client, but after downloading popular torrents your IP is
still hit by thousands of peers looking to connect to you. It is easy to
forget the 50,000+ peers that have hit your connection when your client has
been running non-stop for weeks on end. Sometimes the only cure is to reset
your modem and get a new IP. Downloading Lost, Jericho, and Heroes in one day
will most certainly crash my connection by days end.

-- In uTorrent "Options > Preferences > Queuing" Check your upload ratio
settings.

-- Use the program mentioned in the FAQ to increase the amount of connections in
Windows XP Pro SP2

-- Have you tried adding extra trackers? You'll probably find the single
tracker provided with brand new Prison Break torrents will be off line and wont
connect for hours which can also be a culprit for slow downloads. Try the
tracker list below

-- Does your ISP limit torrent traffic? You can try by encrypting your
torrents.

-- You should be aware that the majority of the service providers these
days "shape" the data flow of their users as they see fit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_shaping

this means reducing the undesirable traffic during the times they feel
necessary. One such undesirable traffic is P2P networking traffic. If you
experiment you will find in most cases that your downloads will run much much
faster overnight, this is when most of the traffic shaping is turned to a
minimum or off.

This is done by the majority of ISP's,

Some common questions answered.

Q: Where is the password to the file I just downloaded?

A: We do not have it as we do not release password protected files, or .rar
files or viruses, or trojans. You got duped into downloading such a file from
another place not from here. Even if it is labeled EZTV is not from us. There
are plenty of dishonest people that release fake EZTV files on other places.

Q: My file is a FAKE!

A: EZTV does not do fakes see answer to the above question.

Q: Why can't I find older episodes of a season or older seasons?

A. Because EZTV caters only to new shows and episodes and does not have the
ability to maintain archives of old shows and episodes. So our tracker get
regularly purged of old episodes and shows to make place to new ones. So you
need to search elsewhere for them.

Q: Why do I see the wrong number of seeds and peers on the tracker for old episodes?

A: See above.

Q: I cannot download the file when I click on the link I get an error message

A. Try another mirror -> [2][3]

Q: I do not get any video/audio on the downloaded file. Why?

A: you have a missing codec or using a bad player. Use VLC Player.

Q: How do I PM somebody?

A: Just click on the person name anywhere you see it.

Q: How I change my password?

A: You do not need to. There is no security issue as an account is only needed
to post on the forums.

Q: The .avi file I downloaded does not play on my stand alone DVD Player, Media
Box, etc...

A: Try using VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org ) to remux your AVI. Choose
"Direct stream copy" for both video and audio to remux without re-encode the file.

Mininova links leading to malware sites

As reported in the forum we are aware of this and here is the thread on Mininova
forum abut this problem you may want to read and follow the advice given there:

If you are having problems with BT-CHAT pop-ups read here:

1. Do use their forum as we do not have any influence.

2. Here is a link to report problems with the BT-Chat site if you detect
virus/trojan/spyware in the ads you captured:

http://www.PayPopup.com/adreport.php?username=btchat

and here are informative posts:

Our site (bt-chat) has been mirror 1 for a long time now. Our change in site was
necessary in order to pay our bills. The popup has always been there, just that
sites like eztv were getting direct linked torrents to our site, which was
causing bandwidth but no traffic to our ads to pay for that extra bandwidth. In
a few months when we build up enough cash to cover the server, the popups will
be again removed like we always do when we don't need them. So please just bare
with us...it's only one popup, which SHOULD happen only once per session (as it
does with me), otherwise it could be a browser problem and we'll look on setting
this session limit server side ourselves. There are NO spyware and trojans in
our ads. If there so happens to be, please report it at the following address:
http://www.paypopup.com/adreport.php?username=btchat

Anyone that knows us well, knows that we have always fully supported eztv the
best we can, and have even hosted their site, and our own tracker for them to
use in the past. If you don't want to deal with our site now, then use the
mininova mirror, but please understand our circumstances also that we need to
cover server costs. We did a poll on bt-chat months ago, asking if users wanted
to donate and have ad free browsing, or have ads and no donating, and ads won by
a landslide ;p We're trying our best to provide what we can, and with our newer
server that was needed to handle things, we again need to cover more costs. I
hope most people can understand this.

Thanks for everyones support.

- BT-Chat Team

A disable ad feature has been added inside the user account's control panel at
BT-Chat. So that regulars, who are annoyed by the ads can now disable the
popups, while those who don't care, will keep BT-Chat's revenue going the best
it can. BT-Chat hope this will make a few people more happy ;p Please read the
news post on BT-chat.com for more infos.

BT-Chat do not post virri (something that a few people have said - not in here).
Obviously there is limited ammounts we can do to prevent some of the more
spurious people injecting stuff at the ad hosters. But the policy of all the ad
content providers explicitelly ban virri. So if you follow our procedures then
it can be quickly resolved. The more people who do that, the less likelly it is
to continue, as the companies have to pay to provide ads, and they aren't going
to want to do that if their ads are removed.

Beyond that, there are ways to stop pop-ups from appearing. Most of them have
been repeatedly posted on here!

Beyond that there are a few things to remember (reiteration of aydin1954 and
other mods):

1) specific complaints should be directed to BT-Chat directly (i haven't seen
anyone in here do that to date. I don't check this forum *that* often. I don't
have the time. If there is a specific issue then there isn't much point posting
it here, cos the chances are, neither I nor the other admins will get it.)

2) A properly configured browser negates all of the above

3) we have options for stopping popups - don't bitch if you can't be bothered to
make use of them!

4) this is likelly to become defunct, as we are looking at taking popups off
soon anyway.
