good show

even better to watch in higher quality when the show airs in the uk in 3 weeks
and WS.PDTV rips come out
EDIT: make that October h**p://www.visiteureka.net/news.html?nid=76
i'm not waiting that long

for anyone wondering last year notv with eureka was dreadful. thats because they
were not WS.DSR but infact just very bad analog captures. i have a card from
2003 that can do better caps
BUT this year NoTV is doing real WS.DSR for eureka.

What is the difference between PDTV and HD or SDTV?

DSR vs PDTV is a good easily noticeable difference. much sharper picture, better
color.
PDTV vs HDTV is a slight difference. little sharper picture and a little more
accurate color.

Eureka dsr vs pdtv
DSR: h**p://img227.imageshack.us/img227/3766/fulldsrxy8.jpg
PDTV: h**p://img138.imageshack.us/img138/9092/fullpdtvos3.jpg

Torchwood HDTV: h**p://img405.imageshack.us/img405/5684/tw108hdtvtg7.jpg

PDTV or Pure Digital Television means a resolution of around 720x480 or 720x576
in the U.K./PAL countries. It means a pure digital link with no analogue
conversions in the process.

HDTV again is a pure digital source but a higher resolution typically of
1280x720 or 1920x1080.

SDTV technically corresponds to PDTV in the sense that PDTV resolutions are SD
(standard definition).

DSR, or Digital Satellite Rip of which this rip is, refers to an SD resolution
rip. I may be wrong here, but it is typically of a similar resolution to PDTV
but lacks the clarity of PDTV.

Even though standard non-HR/720p HDTV rips are typically 624x352, you can still
observe a difference based on what they were ripped from. An HD rip will look
clearer than a PDTV rip, which will look clearer than a DSR rip.

WS.DSR source = 480x480 (360 after cropping it) (4:3 anamorphic) or 640x480
(640x360 after cropping the black bars) at a couple mbits (sad but true)
WS.PDTV source = 720x576 (16:9 anamorphic) around 4+ mbits

i didn't mention 720x480 for the ws.pdtv because i don't ever see ws.pdtv rips
for usa stuff

both are captured digitally the same way with a .TS (which is an exact replica
of the broadcast) but just still vary in quality. the only thing that qualifies
as PDTV in usa is HD stations when they are not doing HD.

i'm giddy at the thought of eureka being back... woohoo

re: dsr v pdtv etc... i once offhandedly likened dsr as 'watching pd or hr
through a glass of water'...
