so, by your logic bugbug, your not REALLY ripping a cd unless you use .wav or
pcm encoded audio... your not REALLY ripping a dvd unless you use mpeg2 encoded
video @ 720x480 pixels with ac3 audio...

O'RLY???

Thats a flawed analogy...

A proper analogy would be to use the Bitrate of an MP3 instead.

What you have argue\'d would be the equivalent of saying a 128kb mp3 is \"320kb\"
(aka HD) because it was made from a 320kb mp3.... when everyone else knows damn
well that is NOT the case.

Reality is the file in question is NOT HD period.

It was simply made from a HD file.

Exactly as BugBug stated and which has been stated repeatedly.

If you still don\'t get it perhaps we can do it as a Crayola drawing just for
you ...

Calm down.

I understand the point you're trying to get across, and in some ways, it's a
valid point. However, I hate to inform you that your line of thinking
represents a minuscule minority.

Here are a few analogies that will fare better than your crude mockups.

Everyone realizes that Xvid DVD rips are not DVD quality. That's why the rips
are tagged with the label Xvid (Title.DVDRip.XviD-GroupName). Please don't call
these DVDs.

Call these DVDs: Title.NTSC.DVDR-GroupName

Similarly, it's common knowledge that CD rips are largely MP3 encodes, so there
is no need to tag them with MP3. (Artist-Album-Year-Groupname) Please don't
call these CDs.

In much the same way, it's common knowledge that HDTV rips are for the most part
not in HD. Leaving us with Title.S00E00.HDTV.XviD-GroupName. Although the tag
says HDTV, it is misleading. The tag is to indicate that the rip is from an
HDTV source, yet it is common knowledge that this tag without an appropriate
modifier like 720p or 1080i is _NOT_ in HD. Please don't call these HD.

Call these HD: Title.S00E00.720p.HDTV.x264-GroupName

Unfortunately for you f0xh0und, you are thinking in terms of SOURCE, while the
rest of the civilized world thinks in terms of ENCODE.

bugbug, first, let me say thanks for taking the time to write out that deeply
well-thought-out explanation. however, i really WASN'T thinking in terms of
"output." i WAS thinking in terms of "source." ANYBODY can see this CLEARLY
*ISN'T* in what one would call "hd." however, it did come from an hdtv SOURCE, so
THAT'S why *I* call it an hdtv rip. like i've been saying, it doesn't have to
follow hdtv "standards" to be an hdtv *RIP* (even though *SOME* people think
otherwise (and that's cool--i see where they're coming from (i just wish they
WOULDN'T be a prick about it like shalimar)!

can we just end this and "agree to disagree?"

*ignores the whole HD crap*

I feel sorry for the experts in this special...I know it was for the cameras but
I wouldn't want to have to work with them. I am glad that the car made it...I
was amazed by it myself...
