I'm curious to see what this is like, it's meant to be crap. The original series
on Channel 4 here in the UK (BBC America shows it apparently) is pretty good.
This US version has been 'Fox-inated' to add 'drama' or whatever.

On a related topic, what happened to Hells Kitchen with Marco Pierre White on
this site? Marco is great TV and was Ramsey's mentor... the only man to ever
make Gordon cry!
Fans of the US Hell Kitchen will probably like it, look it up on torrents, the
series just finished at the weekend, it was great stuff. Macro is quieter and
better than Ramsey. He's also a culinary genius and frickin scary.

Thanks, but to hell with Fox for taking all that is good out of this series.
Wonder how long they had to scout to find places as ridiculous as this one.
Where's the passion? The real passion that was in the original series. Fix the
people and don't just throw money at them. Where's the real skill? The only
thing this series has going for it is Ramsay yet Fox still found a way to take
the good out of even that with crap editing. Meh -_-

And yes bleep + blurred lips fest.

For at least this episode, it could also be called "Extreme Kitchen Makeover".

It also differs from the UK show, at least as it was shown in Canada, in that
there is no follow up a couple of weeks later. They might just be holding that
back for an extended clip show later in the series though.

There was also very little, or any, interaction between Ramsay and the kitchen
staff. It was all owner and front of the house.

Yeah, it was pale in comparison to the UK Series ... there was too much drama (a
lil' repetitive and crazy, that guy had issues !!) and not enough cooking and
Ramsay berating chefs in the kitchen.

It's like he solved all their problems in the final 5-7 minutes of the show, the
solution was simple too : "Act like normal people, you'll be fine" ... geesh.
In retrospect I am pretty sure there were a lot of things being staged to make it
more *exciting* for the US audience, it's just not plausible.

It's too bad they have to bleep all the swear words. That is so annoying. When
will they get with the program in the USA and stop wall to wall censoring. Kidz
hear things 10 times worse on a daily basis anyway. Plus on cable they can swear
all they want, it's only the networks doing it. Ramsay without swear words
clearly audible is like cereals without milk.

I'll keep on watching the series despite the bugs, Ramsay's in it ... but the UK
Series was of higher quality.

The British version is really good. It feels like a documentary, the editing
isn't all over the place, it doesn't have the awful overly dramatic score, it
isn't censored and Ramsay acts in a genuine way. Hell's Kitchen is just about
the complete opposite, so I knew Fox would completely ruin this. I hope Channel
4 continues the original series.

Wow, everyone's in agreement for once. Not much more need be said except I pray
that it feels like a different show next week, that this one was atypical, but
I highly doubt it will.

I'm truly puzzled that this is getting so many good reviews. Surely these
critics have BBC America and so have seen the original series, which actually
felt like a documentary instead of a FOX reality show.

I had wondered why they hadn't mentioned AT ALL that the series was a hit on the
UK, not in promos or even on the show when they were explaining the concept.

I now know why. They don't want people comparing the two shows, because the UK
version is clearly superior.

That's exactly how I felt after watching the first episode of Kitchen Nightmares.

The US version has distracting music, bleeped out ramsaywords and skips out all
the detail with someone-else's sanitised narration.

It's amazing how much a show can be hurt just by moving to a different continent
with a different production team.

On the upside, Channel4 appears to be soliciting for new restaurants for Ramsay
to fix.

Next week should be the one that was shot at Dillons which is the place that had
the manager whom Ramsay got fired from his job and who then turned around and
accused Ramsay of faking the filth in the kitchen and placing the blame on his
shoulders. That dimwit went on to file a law suit against Ramsay which was later
put into arbitration, essentially allowing producers to go ahead and air the
show which the suit would have prevented.

I definitely agree with the others here. I was very disappointed with the show.
It's a far cry from the UK version. Fox bastardizes everything it touches.

By the way, I've seen the Marco Pierre White episodes and I have to say I was
pretty disappointed with it as well. I'm not a major fan of screaming abuse
thrown at anyone but Marco's BS approach of the best way to get through service
is to do the whole damn thing himself, is just stupid and feeds into nearly
everything that Ramsay has ever written or said about MPW. Egomaniac? Control
freak? Certainly looked that way to me. And I found it boring as hell too. They
definitely need to ban celebrities (especially has-beens) altogether from
reality shows. They never do themselves proud by showing how easily they are
flustered the one time they actually have to "work" for a change.

What happened to the revisiting? In the UK version, Gordon would always go back
to the restaurant after a while (1 month, 3 months, whatever) and see if they
had heeded his advice.

It really takes something out of the concept when that is missing.

Also, I missed Gordon's narration. Oh, Fox..

If I can paraphrase that SNL character that reviews movies...this show was
GIAWD-AWEFULL! haha

They really did take what was a sensible show, that might be better
suited for HGTV or FoodTV, and transform it unlike any show I\\\'ve ever seen. Pure
basura. Man, I was really looking forward to this too.

I think the show is on \'roids to be honest. WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE
MUSIC!?!

I saw a vid on YT a few weeks back about a guy who was on this series and was
really disappointed in the treatment he got and I see why. He signed up thinking
it was what he\\\'d seen on BBC and got something else. I believe he\\\'s suing them
too.
