from .NFO:

--Alien Planets--
Have planet hunters finally found proof of other Earthlike
worlds? Astronomers have now discovered over two hundred
alien worlds, beyond our solar system, that were unknown
just a decade ago. Discover planets that rage with fiery
hurricanes and bizarre planets covered by water so dense
that it forms a kind of hot ice. Among these weird worlds,
Earth actually seems like the oddball with the right
conditions for life.

well it's nowhere like a nova docu (for ex: the elegant universe, my fav)
it rather takes a pop-science approach, but i managed to filter that (the
lets-make-average-joe-say:wow! and such parts, i'm sure you know what i mean)
out in my head

well lets see how's this ep gonna go (my expectations are low )

Wicked. I like to get a few of these and then line em up in my player as the
last show of the evening as I go to sleep.

There arent really that many mainstream docos out there these days that have
something challenging to say (except prob the NOVA stuff) ... but I still love
to watch them. And sure, "The Universe" can be alittle lame and laymens, but
thats just perfect for my kids. Even the sensationalist apocalyptic themes
have sparked some serious conversation around the family dinner table.

I managed to aquire the full "Carl Sagan's Cosmos" series and though it is
still inspirational and quite current in many of its lessons and theories,
whateva it was that I found fascinating about it as a child, does not appeal to
this generation. Both "The Universe" and "Lost Worlds" docos (as repetitive as
it is) have been a great alternative. And the 3D stuff is always top quality.

I personally loved Season 1, and am glad this show is back. Yes, they dumb it
down, but that's a good thing; IMHO, this show is more directed at a
children/teenager audience, and that's what level they'd be at. That's not to
say that adults can't enjoy it, but they're shooting for a target demographic,
and I think this is being shown in some classrooms here in FL.

Thanks to SYS an eztv for the show.

What is the problem with all tv producers that think they have to make
everything targeted for ADHD teenagers on an overdose of Ritalin?

They don't get the point that the content itself should provide the interest and
the draw, not cutting up all scenes at less than half a second, showing mindless
and stupid sequences just to fill up the space when they're interviewing a
scientist.

The graphics are OK, not the best but not bad at all, but they are overdoing it
again by trying to make a music video style production instead of a decent
educational program.

It's great to be informed about the latest developments in astronomy but the way
they do the show gets tiring to watch after a few minutes.

So Beth Biller is the Abby Sciuto of Astronomy?

On another note:

"every school child knows that the density of water is 1 gram per cubic centimeter..."

Hmm...that means I am dumber than every school child. I never knew that. I never took
advanced science or math courses past intermediate algebra.

Not everyone is in the intelligencia Mr. Scientist, or shall I say Dr. Rodney McKay...
