These HDTVs have been between 2-5 minutes shorter than the DSRs, despite the
fact they include credits. Is it possible the BBC version cuts some things
out, or is there another explanation?

No, nothing is cut out. <sigh> This question gets asked a lot.

DSR = 30 fps (4:3 aspect ratio)
HDTV = 23.97 fps (16:9 aspect ratio)

Not only that, the DSR rips are NTSC (North America); the HDTV rips are from
the UK, which uses PAL.

The lesser fps (frames per second) results in a slightly less "running time"
even though all the content is there.
