"Skins" is a BAFTA award-winning off-beat comedy drama series about a group of 16-17 year old friends. Sunny, optimistic kids who grab life by the balls and give it a twirl. Kids who party hard, pass exams, have sex, self-harm, manage their parents, interface with their teachers and push boundaries - both home and abroad. The result is a hilarious mixture of sweet, charming and sometimes heartbreaking stories which focus on comic potential as well as proper emotional development.
The first two series saw Tony and his friends through their two years of college. Tony is a smart seventeen year old. He undermines his dad on a daily basis and effortlessly covers up for his little sister, Effy's covert delinquency. The third and fourth series saw Effy and her friends go through college together. Whilst a fifth and sixth series saw a new group of teenagers at the same college.
"Skins" controversial storylines have explored issues such as dysfunctional families, mental illness (such as eating disorders), adolescent sexuality, substance abuse and death.
The show was created by father-and-son television writers Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain.
