"The Ultimate Fighter" features professional MMA fighters living together in Las Vegas, Nevada, and follows them as they train and compete against each other for a prized contract with the UFC. The series debuted on January 17, 2005, with its first episode, "The Quest Begins". To date, there have been fourteen seasons of the show, two per calendar year; the fifteenth began airing in March 2012. Each season features either one or two weight classes in the tournament While the format of the show has changed the one constant thing remains the same a fighter must establish himself in the octagon to be the Ultimate Fighter.
'Ultimate Fighter' moves to FX with live fights on Fox. It's official: UFC is moved to Fox and FX, with Spike TV canceling its long-running reality hit The Ultimate Fighter.
As part of a multi-year deal, Fox will air four live UFC fights per year. Ultimate Fighter will now air on FX. Instead of taping Fighter months in advance like on Spike, each Fighter episode will be shot the same week as when the episode airs and will followed by a live fight. FX will carry six regular fights per year in addition to 24 Ultimate Fighter

"Next season it's a new ballgame," said White. "We have stone-cold killers next season."
After 16 seasons The Ultimate Fighter has seen a major drop in the ratings, leaving many to wonder if it's time to end the show. UFC President Dana White isn't ready to pull the plug just yet, and said that there may be a change of opinion after the next season.
"People are going to see a lot of changes on The Ultimate Fighter this season," said White to Sherdog. "We changed it up and I think people are going to change their tune. I'll be straight up, the last season was not my favorite season. I think you could feel that halfway through."
