The Mystery of Edwin Drood is an adaptation and completion of Charles Dickens's last book, Edwin Drood, which was at the halfway mark when he died on 9 June 1870. It is modern tale about drugs, stalking and darkness visible by writer Gwyneth Hughes about a provincial choirmaster's obsession with 17-year-old Rosa Bud and how far he will go to to get her.
Part 1:
John Jasper finds his his psyche beuing split between darkness and light. He has spent his lifeliving in the cathedral town of Cloisterham living a troubled life. Taking opium regularly has fractured his mind causing a hatred of his nephew Edwin Drood who, he thinks, stands between him and the beaufiful Rosa.
Part 2:
Jasper realises that he has killed Edwin when he comes donw from his drug high. Jasper attempts to find someone else to blame to deal with his guilt and looks towards Neville Landless. Jasper ends up seeking solace in Rosa.
