-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC capped off the work week on a winning note thanks to an encore of theatrical The Polar Express, which averaged a dominant 10.33 million viewers and a 3.0 rating/9 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that is a considerable improvement over regularly scheduled Friday occupants Men in Trees and Women’s Murder Club. Second overall in both total viewers and adults 18-49 was NBC, followed by CBS, Smackdown! ignited the CW and Fox.

Dominance was shared in the Friday 8 p.m. hour, with NBC’s Deal or No Deal first in total viewers (10.38 million) and second among adults 18-49 (2.4/ 8). The repeat of Polar Express on ABC was second in total viewers (9.64 million) and No. 1 in the demo, with a 2.8/ 9. Also airing from 8-9 p.m. was the first half of CBS special My Night At the Grammys (Viewers: #3: 5.62 million; A18-49: #3, 1.5/ 5), the first half of the CW’s always reliable Friday Night Smackdown! (Viewers: #4, 4.37 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 4), and Fox clinker The Next Great American Band (Viewers: #5: 2.16 million; A18-49: #5, 0.9/ 3).

Second behind the conclusion of The Polar Express from 9-10 p.m. was the final hour of CBS’ My Night at the Grammys, with 6.72 million viewers and a 1.9/ 5 among adults 18-49. Overall. My Night at the Grammys averaged 6.17 million viewers and a mere 1.7/ 5 in the demo from 8-10 p.m. Does anyone understand why CBS would run this special now and not closer to the Grammys in February?

Also airing in the 9 p.m. hour was NBC’s still struggling Friday Night Lights (Viewers: #3, 5.66 million; A18-49: #3, 1.7/ 5), which would benefit if it would just slow down the camera movement, a repeat of Fox’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Viewers: #4: 4.88 million; A18-49: #4, 1.6/ 5), which built considerably from lead-in The Next Great American Band, and the second half of Friday Night Smackdown! (Viewers: #4, 4.92 million; A18-49: #4, 1.6/ 5). Overall, Smackdown! averaged 4.64 million viewers and a 1.3/ 4 in the demo from 8-10 p.m.

First at 10 p.m. was ABC’s veteran 20/20 (Viewers: 7.29 million; A18-49: 2.1/ 6), followed by NBC’s Las Vegas (Viewers: 7.25 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 6), which is a question mark for renewal for 2008-09, and a repeat of CBS’ Numb3rs (Viewers: 7.19 million; A18-49: 1.7/ 5). And there you have it…that’s Friday.
