CBS picks up three drama pilots Law and Order: Special Victims Unit Login to vote
CBS execs are keeping busy, picking up three more drama projects Wednesday -- including the first-ever broadcast greenlight for Pangea, the scripted sister to reality producer RDF USA.

Separately, Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain have joined the staff of Joss Whedon's Fox project "Dollhouse."

Eye orders include the pilots "NY-LON," from ABC Studios and writers Patti Carr and Lara Runnels, and "Mythological X," from 20thCentury Fox TV and scribe Diane Ruggiero. Net also picked up the drama presentation "Can Openers," from Sony Pictures TV and penned by Elle Johnson.

"Mythological X" revolves around a woman who discovers -- via psychic -- that she has already dated the man she was destined to married. The character then embarks on a mission to find "the one" by combing through all of her old relationships.

Ruggiero ("Veronica Mars") will exec produce with Jonathan Levin .

Then there's "Can Openers," which will be exec produced by Apostle's Jim Serpico ("Rescue Me"). Johnson ("Ghost Whisperer") will co-exec produce.

Project centers on a woman in her 20s as she enters a seven-year neurosurgical residency, encountering a competitive, clubby atmosphere along the way.

As for "NY-LON," pilot is based on a six-episode U.K. series that aired on Channel 4 in fall 2004. Project centers on a man and a woman who attempt an extremely-long distance romance (between New York and London) after a chance meeting in London. (Rashida Jones starred in the British version.)

Beacon Television's Armyan Bernstein and Laurie Zaks are exec producers, along with Touchpaper's Rob Pursey, Pangea's Chris Coelen, and an exec from Pandemonium to be named later. Carr and Runnels will co-EP.

"It's a transatlantic romance about star-crossed lovers," Coelen said.

"NY-LON" reps Pangea's first broadcast net pilot pickup; this development season reps the shingle's first in the scripted arena.

Pangea's other scripted pilot pickups include VH1's sketch comedy "Star Stories" and Spike TV's "Peep Show," an odd-couple comedy based on the Britcom that won best laffer honors at the British Comedy Awards last year.

In prepping for scripted development, Coelen -- who serves as CEO of RDF USA -- and the Pangea development team went through the many formats owned by RDF, looking to "pick the things that were most adaptable," he said.

In the case of "NY-LON," Coelen noted that the show already had a built-in U.S. element.

Meanwhile, Fain and Craft join "Dollhouse," from 20th Century Fox TV, after recently departing ABC's "Women's Murder Club," where they were exec producers. TVBarn.com first wrote of Fain and Craft's change of series address; studio was still hammering out their exact titles on "Dollhouse" late Wednesday.
