CBS had its strongest Monday night since premiere week, with "How I Met Your Mother" hitting a season high.
Though lead-in "The Big Bang Theory" (9.7 million viewers, 3.7 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) was down slightly from last week's series-high spike, "How I Met Your Mother" (9.8 million, 4.3) jumped to its best rating this fall. CBS has been thrilled with "Mother" this season, noting the comedy was higher rated than NBC's comedy tentpole "The Office" last week.
At 9 p.m., "Two and a Half Men" (15.2 million, 5.3) grew 8% to match its season high and "Worst Week" (10.4 million, 3.2) was up 14% to its best number in a few weeks. "CSI: Miami" (15.4 million, 4.2) continues to make up ground after weeks of drops, now up 14%. CBS won Monday in the adult demo and total viewers.
ABC was second in the demo, with "Dancing With the Stars" (19.7 million, 4.3) and "Samantha Who" (11.1 million, 3.0) up slightly for the second week in a row, and "Boston Legal" (8.4 million, 2.2) on par.
In third, NBC's "Chuck" (6.8 million, 2.6) climbed 8%, yet "Heroes" (7.6 million, 3.6) was flat, matching last week's series low. After a long slide, "My Own Worst Enemy" (4 million, 1.9) reversed and went up a tenth (Murphy's Law of NBC programming: canceled shows start going up in the ratings; renewed shows suddenly drop).
Fourth-place Fox's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (5.3 million, 2.0) was steady and "Prison Break" (5.9 million, 2.3) made a bit of a gain for the second consecutive week.
Overall, Monday's ratings represent an average viewership gain of two tenths compared to last week. Yet if there’s a post-election rising tide, it didn’t seem to float the CW. "Gossip Girl" (2.9 million, 1.4) was down slightly in the adult demo, though up a tick in young women. "One Tree Hill" (2.7 million, 1.3) fell 19% in the demo.
