Hey Paula: Why So Demanding?	American Idol	Login to vote
Paula Abdul doesn't do much but be insane. And yet she asks for so much in return. So it looks like burble-mouthed Paula Abdul will never be on American Idol ever again. I mean, probably not. There's always a chance, but probably her time in the Coca-Cola swivel chairs of power has ended. Which is... maybe not good for the show? But in terms of creative or talent losses, it's not like My So-Called Life got canceled or something. Paula Abdul, the non-critical judge, left American Idol. That's it. No great tragedy. No big deal. And yet people are making a big deal about it. Not the least of whom is Paula herself. The story is that she was demanding tens of millions of dollars for another couple seasons of sitting there and failing to make coherent sentences two times a week. Tens of millions! Simon Cowell can demand that because he actually says words that mean things and does some behind-the-scenes stuff and all that. Paula is just propped up by her assistant and then blows spit bubbles all evening and then had the gall to put out her hand and ask for tens of millions of dollars. And it didn't just stop with Idol. Supposedly she lost an opportunity to appear on ABC's gay Fourth of July fireworks spectacular, Ugly Betty, because she had similarly crazy demands. Ridiculous requests like her own private jet to take to the set, perhaps. A private jet! For Paula Abdul. Paula Abdul who revealed herself to a complete crumpling mess when she had that highly unfortunate reality show a few years back. Paula Abdul who everyone pretty much knows is sort of a gentle joke. So my question: Is Paula Abdul worth what she's evidently asking for? Has she ever been worth all this fuss? I know she's done some great work in choreography in years past, but all that mostly fizzled and disappeared in the '90s. And she doesn't really make music anymore (I mean, this doesn't count, does it?), let alone big hits like "Opposites Attract" or whatever. So, basically, for the past eight years or so Paula has become re-famous for simply sitting down in a chair, putting her finger to her lips, and making that bibbling humming sound thing. When not demonstrating that great skill, she's creaked ominously in a single music video and produced a predictably sloppy cheerleading competition show. Plus she's apparently really full of herself to boot! And yet, here she is demanding private planes and tens of millions of dollars and everyone is writing things about her career like she's some hot property. And why, god, why? Why on Earth does Paula deserve all of this ink, and all of these opportunities to do things that she keeps squandering by basically being insane? So let's just be done. Let's just say no more. Paula my addled love, when you get your mind right and can actually contribute something to a television show or event or whatever that isn't a strange series of moans and gurgles, then we'll talk about egregious perks and tens of millions of dollars. But until then? You ought to just humbly take what little comes your way and hush up about it. I'm being straight with you.
