90210/Melrose Place' nights are back‎ 90210 Login to vote
Viewers of a whole new generation will get to enjoy “90210/Melrose Place” nights as the spin-offs of the iconic 1990s shows kick off the CW’s fall 2009 season premiere on Tuesday night.

It all started when “90210,” which is based on the 1990s series “Beverly Hills, 90210,” premiered last fall on the CW network. Several original cast members reprised their roles, including Jennie Garth (as Kelly Taylor) and Shannen Doherty (as Brenda Walsh), but a whole new generation of West Beverly Hills High School students were introduced.

Melrose Place castOn the new “Melrose Place,” which makes its debut Tuesday night, several original cast members are also expected to return, such as Laura Leighton (as Sydney Andrews) and Thomas Calabro (Dr. Michael Mancini). “90210” mostly focuses on the new cast, but throws a bone to the nostalgic fans with the return of original cast members and hangouts. “Melrose Place” is expected to follow suit; however, its return brings back the biggest nostalgia factor of all, the aforementioned “90210/Melrose Place” nights.

Viewers of early 1990s television may remember that Fox once aired the original shows back-to-back on Wednesday nights. This allowed fans to gather with their friends to watch a double-dose of the Los Angeles-based dramas. Now the CW will recreate this nostalgic evening on Tuesday nights.

Season two cast of 90210So will the “90210/Melrose Place” nights tradition continue? In this age of DVRs, Tivo, and the Internet, it is hard to say. Perhaps friends will gather around their laptops/Ipods watching downloaded versions together at lunch, or they'll just text each other on their cell phones during the episodes, or maybe they’ll just wait to see if the shows are a success and rent the season DVDs for a complete “90210/Melrose Place” marathon.

"90210" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. (ET), followed by "Melrose Place" at 9 p.m. (ET) on the CW network.
