‘BANG! BANG! BANG!’ U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) just shot a notorious gun thug in broad daylight at a swank Miami hotel. He was justified – the guy pulled first. Well, Raylan’s superior officers don’t care who pulled first – U.S. Marshals are not allowed to shoot on site and haven’t been since, oh, about a 100 years!

As punishment for the shooting, the Marshals send Raylan back to his home state of Kentucky, a place he swore to never return. Upon his arrival in Lexington, his new Chief Deputy, Art Mullen (Nick Searcy) puts him to work on a case involving an old friend of Raylan’s – Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins). Boyd and Raylan used to dig coal together back when they were 19 years old. Boyd is now a religious white supremacist and he isn’t one for bullshitting when it comes to things he deems worthy of his beliefs.

The two friends meet again over a glass of moonshine, but things tense up quickly when Boyd comments on the shooting in Miami. Boyd asks Raylan if he saw his daddy’s face when he shot the man. A low blow. Seems that Raylan’s daddy, Arlo, (Raymond J. Barry) is a criminal and they haven’t spoken in over twenty years.

Coming back home to a small town, you are bound to run into people from your past, including your ex-wife – Winona, (Natalie Zea) – who left you for the realtor. Of course, there are other old friends like Ava Crowder (Joelle Carter) who wants to be much more than friends with Raylan. After she shoots her husband, who just happened to be Boyd’s brother, the situation gets sticky, in more ways than one. Raylan knows that Boyd is coming after her to seek justice and possibly to kill him, but Ava has other things in mind that she’d like to do to him.

Timothy Olyphant is magnificent as Raylan Givens. He is sexy and confident. He brings to life a Southern gentleman who has a subtle air of arrogance and his methodic analysis on how he approaches suspects and clues. Of course, the occasional shot of Jim Beam doesn’t hurt either. Assumptions and stereotypes run amuck but it is done realistically without pretense.

Tune in Tuesday March 16, 2010 at 10PM E/P on FX to find out what happens when Raylan returns home to the eastern hills of Kentucky – where the outlaws also include your family and friends.

‘Justified’ brings all the Southern charm of a cool mint julep on a hot summer’s day with an extra shot of bourbon! Timothy Olyphant is magnificent as U.S Marshal Raylan Givens. This show has grit, drama, and southern style gunslinger tension to make the wild, wild West tuck its tail between its legs! I love it!
