I knew it was too good to be true. Just as I dive into ‘United States of Tara‘ with its third season, the show gets sent to the dumpsters. Today, Showtime finally revealed what they were planning to do with their Monday dramedy lineup. The Edie Falco-headlined ‘Nurse Jackie‘ has been given the go for a fourth season, but it will not be joined by Toni Colette and the rest of the cast from United States of Tara. ‘Tis a shame to, the news came as I just finished up my review of next week’s episode (ep. 3.10). The show will ride out the rest of its season as planned, continuing tonight at 10:30PM EST with “Bryce Will Pay.” I’ve seen it, it’s just as good as last week. Nurse Jackie airs before it at 10:00PM, look for fellow The Voice Of TV writer Dar Long to be posting her review of the episode. Both shows average mediocre live broadcast numbers, but premium cable networks judge more on combined ratings than they do live ratings. Nurse Jackie has been riding the half million mark most of the season, with USOT popping up and down between 200k to 500k viewers each week (live broadcast numbers). Combined ratings tally up both shows to have over a million viewers, but Tara‘s ratings have gone down compared to seasons past. I have not see the final episodes of the show just yet, but given that the screeners were sent out weeks before the show premiered, obviously there shall be hints to what would have come next season. However, judging from seasons past, USOT normally ends a season with a sense of closure in preparation of possibly being cancelled, so I have no clue how it will end.
