'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' Renewed for Two Seasons It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Login to vote
It's been a big year for the cast of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."

FX president John Landgraf announced on Saturday that the network has renewed the series for an eighth and ninth season. He said, "We actually have an option...to pick up a tenth season. We're just picking up two for now." A ninth season will make the show the longest-running live-action comedy series in basic cable history.

The 7th season of "Sunny" will premiere September 15, and according to Landgraf, fans are in for a treat. He said, "I don't know what stories they're going to do in Seasons 8 and 9, but I have seen all the episodes [from Season 7]. Legitimately I think it's their funniest season so far....It's just uproariously funny."

With more seasons of the hit show on the way, here's a look at what the cast has been up to.

Actor Rob McElhenney, who portrays Mac on the show, "weighed in" on his character's 50-pound weight gain for the upcoming season. Said McElhenney, "I tried to look as ugly as possible, basically." Citing a desire to "deconstruct" the stereotypical sitcom, Rob says he didn't want a character who got progressively better looking as the seasons wore on. After working with a nutritionist to pack on the extra pounds, he has since shed about half of what he put on.

In September of last year, McElhenny and his wife, "Sunny" costar Kaitlin "Sweet Dee" Olson, welcomed their first child together. Axel Lee McElhenney was born at the couple's L.A. home, weighing 8 pounds, 7 ounces. Olson said she went into labor while attending a Dodgers-Phillies game, and jokingly recalled the experience. She said, "As soon as Ryan Howard hit a 3 run home run, we felt comfortable leaving to go have our baby. We love him like crazy, even though he made us miss the second half of the game."

Jennifer Aniston's "Horrible Bosses" costar Charlie Day is expecting a baby with his wife, Mary Elizabeth Ellis. The baby, which is due this December, will be the first child for the couple, who tied the knot in 2006. Ellis has a recurring role on "Sunny" as "The Waitress," a coffee shop employee with whom Charlie's character is obsessed.

Glenn Howerton, who plays Paddy's Pub co-owner Dennis Reynolds, is expecting his first child with wife Jill Latiano. The actor tweeted the news--and a picture--last month, saying "Check out my beautiful, preggers wife, y'all." Latiano, who has also appeared on "Sunny," tied the knot with Howerton in 2009.

Writer and co-producer David Hornsby, who also has a recurring role as Matthew "Rickety Cricket" Mara, is expecting a child with his wife, "Bones" star Emily Deschanel. The baby, which will be the couple's first, is due this fall. The couple wed last September after dating since 2007, and they announced they were expecting in March.
