NBC Practically Cancels The Firm, Schedules Awake	Login to vote
NBC has finally gone soft on The Firm and opened its eyes to Awake! Best opening sentence ever! The Peacock made some big moves today, essentially canceling legal thriller The Firm. Based on the John Grisham novel and Tom Cruise movie of the same name, the show has been performing dismally in the Thursday-at-10pm slot, turning in a 0.8 adult rating last night. Even Univision laughs at that number. The Firm will be moved to Saturday nights at 9pm starting February 11, which is NBC's kind way of saying, "You stink." That opens up the Thursday 10pm slot, which for years has been a black hole for NBC; filling the vacancy will be Awake from Kyle Killen (Lone Star), starting on March 1. Until then, NBC will air repeats of Grimm after Up All Night. Hopefully the excellent Awake will serve as a magic cork and stop the suckage in that slot, because seriously, the pilot is great. The high-concept cop drama stars Jason Isaacs as a detective who gets into a horrific car accident with his wife and son. When he comes to, he lives in two worlds, one where his wife died but his son lived, and one where his son died but his wife lived. Not only does he have to catch bad guys, but he has to struggle with the continuing mind-f*ck of waking up in alternate realities where one of his loved ones is dead. Has he created an elaborate coping mechanism, or is something more cosmic going on? Go ahead and place your bets that he was dead the whole time. And because I can't get enough of this Awake trailer no matter how many times I watch, here it is again:
