after a heartbreaking fifth season finale, the vampire diaries gives us a sneak peek into season 6.

life goes on, even when you’re the undead.

the cw has released a short, 20-second teaser for the sixth season of the vampire diaries, which shows a grieving elena (nina dobrev), still unable to accept the loss of damon (ian somerhalder), who was killed (maybe?) in the season five finale alongside bonnie (kat graham) in some sort of magic mayhem/other side collapse.

that doesn’t stop damon from showing up in the promo, telling elena to move on. when your dead, ghost boyfriend tells you to let it go, let it go. he knows stuff.

season six opens after a long period of time has passed. our characters are victims of a ‘no-magic’ spell, and no longer in mystic falls.

“the way we look at it, season six is a beautiful and organic reset. the theme of the season is everybody gets to start over. that’s what we’re going to do,” vampire diaries executive producer julie plec recently told the hollywood reporter, “we’re trying to take the show away from the massive genre extravaganza, where each season we try to top each other with the bigger, bad, more exciting mythologies and boil it back down to the beginning.”

the vampire diaries, returns oct. 2 to the cw.
