for an x264 file, this is very small, could someone check into this?

i'm no file format expert thesedays but if the big bang theory torrent is anything to go by the
150mb .mp4 will offer marginally better quality than a 350mb .avi.

not when you have to watch it on a 15" laptop display, which is what a lot of us have to do with
this mp4 crap. the xvids are much better as they are easier to play on a tv thru a dvd player. i'm
not going to waste a bunch of money on some game player just to watch mp4's. whoever came up with
the idea of switching to this crap should be tarred and feathered.

i think the people who came up with mpeg-4 part 10 (x264) are probably the same people who came up
with mpeg-4 part 2 (xvid). but you're right, we should use the older version forever so that you can keep
carrying files back and forth to your media player instead of buying a $3 cable to plug your computer into
your tv.

ack! two hours now... somebody post the avi, dammit! lol

i'm not against it, but they should post the .avi version too, for whoever wants to download that one, just like there is
people who choose between the normal episode and the 720p version.

if i could connect my computer to my tv i would. it isn't a matter of a $3 cord (i have about every
type of connector cable imaginable), it's a matter of either wasting money on a newer tv or large
monitor with different inputs that match my laptop, a new laptop with different outputs to match my
existing tv, or a different player that can play these infernal mp4 files. everything i have works
perfectly well as it is, so why should i have to spend several hundred dollars so someone can upload
mp4 files that are 5 megs smaller than the xvids? i know i'm not the only person in this situation
either. that's why it is a mistake.

remember, not everyone has money to burn on this stuff. a lot of us have families to take care of
which takes precedence over buying expensive new hardware.

amen.

while several groups are adopting the x264 for hdtv, there are other groups adamant about sticking
with xvid. the x264 is smaller and encodes faster so will almost always be the first release (it
does play on xbox360 and ps3 btw if your dvd player isn't co-operating) but xvid will still come out
in most cases, there's just fewer groups doing it so may take a bit longer.

interesting. i've never been able to get these mp4 files to play in my xbox. it chokes everytime.
plays the old school avi just fine though.

i think i just had another one yesterday. in any case, i keep it updated regularly but mp4 files
have always given me an error similar to the one you get when you need the media update to play xvid
files. i'm downloading one of tonight's mp4s now to run a test. maybe i just had bad files the
last time i tried? i know i was having some bizarre glitch with vuze for a while where downloads
would show as complete but not actually be complete (resintall fixed it) so maybe my last attempt
was on an incomplete file and i didn't realize it since it played on my pc ok.

update: and sure enough it worked just fine. looks kind of bad compared to the regular cap which is
interesting since my tv is hd but whatever. problem solved, though i'm still not sure what the
problem actually was.
