our girl -- the one-off 2013 tv movie special sees 18-year-old molly dawes (lacey turner) decide to join the army, deciding her life has no purpose on discovering that her boyfriend has been cheating on her. she initially keeps this decision a secret from her family, which comprised her controlling father dave (sean gallagher) and doting mother belinda (kerry godliman), encouraged only by the manager of the recruitment office, sergeant lamont (paul fox). when the truth is exposed, dave demands she changes her mind, threatening to disown her from the family if she does not; leaving molly to make the heartbreaking decision to step away as she heads off to training camp. here, corporal geddings (matthew mcnulty) initially doubt molly's strength as a potential soldier, but she strives to prove herself and eventually earns the respect of her peers, even reuniting with her mother belinda when she visits her to apologise for dave's actions. our girl -- the 2014 tv series picks up over a year after the end of the special, after molly has completed training as a combat medical technician. she is told she is to fly out to camp bastion in afghanistan alongside her new team, 2 section, who are all males. she is uncomfortable to discover that an ex-flame, 'smurf' (iwan rheon) is amongst her new section, and sets off on the wrong foot with haughty team leader captain james (ben aldridge) a hailed war hero. on arrival in afghanistan, molly fights to prove herself to the men around her while also offering compassion to the locals, including eleven-year-old afghan girl bashira (becky eggersglusz), giving herself an understanding of what it is like to be a civilian caught up in the taliban's war. cast list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/our_girl#cast general information status: airing season 1 movie premiere: march 24, 2013 series premiere: september 21, 2014 classification: scripted genre: drama | history | military/war network: bbc one (united kingdom) airs: sundays at 09:00 pm runtime: 60 minutes season 1 -- 5 episodes (plus a tv movie) note: the scene has mislabeld some releases. the correct episode number, air dates, and the associated scene pre labels are listed below 0x00 -- mar 24, 2013 -- tv movie -- our.girl.hdtv.x264-river 1x01 -- sep 21, 2014 -- our.girl.s01e02.hdtv.x264-ftp 1x01 -- sep 21, 2014 -- our.girl.s01e01.pdtv.x264-docere --- *duplicate* 1x02 -- sep 28, 2014 -- our.girl.s01e03.hdtv.x264-ftp 1x03 -- oct 05, 2014 -- our.girl.s01e04.hdtv.x264-ftp 1x04 -- oct 12, 2014 -- our_girl.1x05.hdtv_x264-fov 1x05 -- oct 19, 2014 -- our.girl.s01e05.real.hdtv.x264-tla additional show information https://eztv.it/shows/1131/our-girl/ http://www.tvrage.com/shows/id-34907 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/our_girl http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3815412/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0260ych http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0260ych/episodes/guide |

in spite of some technical errors - a captain commanding a platoon - a job for a lieutenant, no platoon sergeant in evidence, huey helos - long out of service and dating back to vietnam war, and much poor field-craft this was a hugely enjoyable series and is definitely one not to miss. sunday nights will be less appealing to me! there is some clamour on twitter for a second series, but looking at the cast and technicians credits (afghan scenes filmed in south africa) it is obvious this was hugely expensive to produce, which may well militate against more episodes. in addition the scope for further military adventures is limited given the exit of uk forces from afghanistan by the end of this year. |
