the witches of east end have hit a dead end. the cleanup of lifetime’s series portfolio continues with the cancellation of the supernatural drama. it joins another recent casualty, freshman dystopian drama the lottery. both series had unimpressive summer runs paired together. witches of east end opened its second season with an underwhelming 1.1 million viewers, down 42% from the series premiere. the lottery matched that number with its series debut. witches‘ season 2 average (also 1.1 million) was down 32% from season 1. the demise of the two shows leaves devious maids as the only returning lifetime scripted series for next year. the network has on tap two upcoming hourlong scripted shows, unreal and the straight-to-series the omen sequel damien, as well as drama pilot the clan of the cave bear. like with other cancelled series that ended seasons on cliffhangers that would never be resolved, the news of witches‘ cancellation likely won’t sit well with fans. the season 2 finale featured ingrid (rachel boston) finding out she was pregnant, dash (eric winter) swapping bodies with brother killian (daniel di tomasso) and wendy (mädchen amick) getting face to face with her estranged sister.
